Donald Trump has told us that he thinks we may need to issue ID cards to Muslims:
There is ample precedent for this. As templates, allow me to present the religion-based ID cards my father’s parents had to carry (the reddish mark on the left page of each is a “J” in old German script):
For some reason my grandparents were not too keen on this requirement. They wanted to come to the US in 1939, but people who must have shared Mr. Trump’s enlightened worldview prevented them from doing so until many years later, when for some reason German Jews were no longer seen as quite so threatening.
Of course, a special ID carried in a pocket does little to alert average Americans of their proximity to members of a dangerous religious group. A viable solution to this problem also has a storied history:
Rough translation: “Who wears this symbol is an enemy of our people.”
That about covers it, right Donald?
